March already!! Let’s check back to see how February went for Babywearing International of Hampton Roads.

I don’t care what the groundhogs say, Spring is right around the corner. I can’t wait for the weather to warm up so I can explore the outside with my baby on my back. Was it just me or were there LOTS of newborns at this meeting? I love meeting new babies! For our February meeting, Anne demonstrated how to use a ring sling with a newborn. We were treated to the adorable sight of babies carried facing front in a ring sling kangaroo carry. Anna taught back carrying with soft structured carriers and meitais. Babywearing reaches a whole new level of practicality when your baby is riding on your back. Katie shared a newborn trick using Front Wrap Cross Carry in a woven wrap. I love seeing all the snuggled squishy babies. Jade and Janet demonstrated back carries with a woven wrap. We provide weighed dolls to practice with until you’re comfortable doing back carries with your actual child! Our volunteer Alex led our Babywearing Banter station where she shared her love for all things babywearing. We love our volunteers! We added three new members at today’s meeting and we saw lots of first time attendees! I can’t wait to see all of you (and your babies) at our next monthly meeting in Virginia Beach.

Our February Peninsula meeting was almost rescheduled due to a Friday evening snow storm, but luckily it melted in time to have 72 moms, dads, and kids attend our meeting in Hampton. Anne’s demo of a Front Reinforced Torso Rebozo with a Poppins finish was very popular, while Chrissie, Heather, Donna, and Concha split up to provide help to our large group. Volunteers Cheyanne and Joe managed our busy lending library and we welcomed first-time volunteers Morgan and Jamie on our welcome table and new babywearing banter station. It was a busy and fun meeting and we look forward to seeing you on the Peninsula again in March!

Western Branch’s second meeting was absolutely wonderful! We had a few familiar faces from our first meeting and so many who were checking out our new evening meeting for the first time. It is so awesome to see this meeting grow! During the meeting, we had busy stations. It was an intimate meeting and we enjoyed getting to know the attendees. We are still in need of Area Representatives and educators so we can implement a lending library at this meeting. If you would like more information, please email with any questions.

Our February Southside meeting’s theme should have been “Ring Slings Galore”! We checked out ALL of our wrap conversion ring slings. Thanks to our educators (especially Dana) for teaching people to find the ring sling love. We welcomed NINE people to their first meeting and added FIVE new members. All five of those members immediately began reaping the benefits of their membership by checking out carriers from our library. We can’t wait to see what March brings! We will see you (hopefully) at Mary Pretlow Library in Norfolk due to a staff day at Chesapeake Public Libraries. Be watching the facebook event for confirmation.
