Carry of the Month: Full Buckle Onbuhimo Back Carry

I am sorry for the terribly long break in Carry of the Months. Now we are back on track. To kick off 2016, we will cover a back carry in a full buckle onbuhimo.

Full buckle onbus are an advance carrier. They should only be worn with a baby that can sit unassisted. There is no waist belt and it is designed to be worn high on your back. when properly tightened, the weight of baby will be supported by your upper body and shoulders. Always take care getting baby on and off.

Now onto the carry. VBE Donna shows how to use the onbuhimo for a back carry.

1. Lay the onbuhimo face down onto an elevated surface.
2. Place your baby onto the onbuhimo. Baby should be positioned so that the back panel can reach to the top of her armpits.
3. Feed baby’s legs through the opening between the shoulder strap and the body panel. The body panel will fold up between you and baby to create a seat. Donna illustrates how the panel sits up towards baby’s belly button between you.
4. Lift the panel up baby’s back to the top of her armpits. With the straps under baby’s arms, grab hold of the straps.
5. With your back towards baby, lower yourself to a similar level as her. She should be centered on your back. Pass an arm through the closest shoulder strap opening while securing the opposite strap tightly in hand.
6. Pass your other arm through the second strap. Baby should be situated similarly to a backpack. Right yourself with a slight bend forward to support the child with your back.

7. Secure the chest belt and tighten.
8. Check that baby is properly seated. The bottom edge of the panel should rest between your back and his torso, forming a hammock like seat. You may need to pull up on the panel.
9. Tighten the shoulder straps to secure the seat and raise your child. She should be seated in an M shaped seated position, with her knees above her bottom, and high on your back.
10. If you need to further adjust the fit, use the perfect fit adjusters (PFAs) to alter the strap length.

There you have it!

To Take Baby Down
1. Loosen the straps. Unclip the chestbelt
2. Securing baby with an arm, remove your arms from the shoulder straps.
3. Hip scoot baby down, always keeping her secure with your arm.
4. Take the carrier off baby and thats it!
Happy Wearing!
