Babywearer of the Month: Meet Brittany

Our Babywearer of the Month for April is Brittany M. She has become a familiar face at our monthly meetings since she first joined us at a Peninsula meeting several months ago. We hope you enjoy getting to know her better as much as we have!

-How long have you been babywearing? I have been babywearing since Maxine was 2 weeks old. She never wanted to be put down and I was very tired of doing everything with one hand. I begged some of my online mommy friends for advice because the only advice I was getting was “just put her down” but I could not stand to listen to her cry. One of them suggested a Boba wrap and once I got it, I fell in love INSTANTLY.

-How has it helped you or changed your life as a mom? Babywearing has made me a much better mother. I can tend to all of Maxine’s needs even if I am busy with cleaning or homework. I’m now a mobile mom rather than just sitting on the couch all day like I did the first two weeks of her life.

-What is your favorite carrier (or carry) and why? I have tried stretchy wraps, wovens, SSCs, Mei Tais, and ring slings. My favorite by far is my Sakura Bloom linen ring sling. Ring slings are easy to use and since I’ve got it, it has been my go-to carrier. I love it for quick outings and around the house. My Ergo carrier is great when Max needs a nap while I have homework or housework to do. She falls asleep pretty fast in them. I’m falling in love with shortys though. they might bump ring slings out of that #1 spot! My favorite carry with the woven wrap is a front wrap cross carry because I get so many cuddles that way.

-What is your biggest babywearing accomplishment? My biggest accomplishment was actually learning how to wear Maxine on my back. It was life changing. I was back to cooking and cleaning!

-What has been your biggest struggle with babywearing? My biggest struggle was initially starting. I had a hard time learning how to wrap and almost gave up, but I’m glad I stuck with it.

-What do you want others to know about babywearing? I want others to know that babywearing is a great way to bond with your baby while still being yourself. It is the best way to be hands-free while still getting in tons of snuggles with your baby.
