A Fond Farewell to 2015

This past Saturday, December 19, 2015, marked the official installation of the 2016 Board of Directors. I handed over the reigns of to Jacquie. I almost had a moment when I looked at our previous 2-term president & friend, Jilliane, and realized that for the first time since our inception in 2012, a founding board member is not serving on the current Board of Directors of BWI of Hampton Roads. It seems like yesterday that Ashley, Ginger, Jilliane, & I were sitting around a kitchen table with big plans for a new affiliate chapter.

Virginia Beach, February 20th, 2015

The 2016 Area Representatives are:

Additionally, we lost three active volunteers and educators this past year to moves, which happens all too often in this region: Caitlyn S.; Patricia B.; and Meg G.

International Babywearing Week 2015

2015 was an awesome year for BWI of Hampton Roads! We started the year with 1315 members & 99 sustaining members. As of December 20, 2015, we have 2307 chatter group members & 164 sustaining members.

We reached “large chapter” status with Babywearing International, Inc and currently have 2 Master Babywearing Educators, 1 Advanced Babywearing Educator, 17 Volunteer Babywearing Educators, 2 Chapter Support Volunteers, & several dedicated Ambassadors who help at our meetings and special events.

We hosted 37 regular monthly meetings and 15 outreach events over the course of the year. Our growth has brought us to the point where we can add a fourth monthly meeting to be held in the evening so that we can be accessible to even more parents and caregivers in the Hampton Roads area. With this change, the Southside meetings will be held in the Indian River/Greenbrier area of Chesapeake and the evening meetings will be held in the Western Branch area of Chesapeake/Portsmouth.

Southside, November 20, 2015

We still need more volunteers and more sustaining members to support our growth and mission to promote babywearing as a universally accepted practice, with benefits for both child and caregiver, through education and support.

If you are interested in volunteering as a babywearing educator or with general chapter support, please email .

If you are interested in serving as an area representative for the Southside or Virginia Beach meeting, please email your letter of intent to . You do not have to be a babywearing educator to serve as an area representative.

Babywearing International of Hampton Roads has exceeded where I imagined we’d be at this point and I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Thank you for allowing me to serve you and for supporting our organization,
